Hello! I’m Rebekah

A qualified Career Counsellor and Coach helping people to navigate career change and transition.

I absolutely love helping people to thrive in the workplace!

Leading HR and Recruitment teams globally for more than a decade, I get a thrill every time I meet with an employee to map out their next career step or help a job seeker to secure their dream role. I can see how much people sparkle when they’re doing a job that matters to them and when work and life are on the same page.

After starting a family in 2017, I knew I wanted to create a business helping people to proactively design their best work life, secure their dream job and find career happiness. It took me 3 years (and a second child) to find the confidence to launch, completing my Graduate Certificate in Careers Education with RMIT and setting up my little business, “Design Your Best Work Life”.

So, how did it all begin?

For most of us, including myself, career change is inevitable. Beginning my career in New Zealand as an Optician with OPSM, I was promoted to Store Manager and led high-performing branches in Wellington and Christchurch. A typical Kiwi, I had the itch to travel and booked a one-way flight to London on my 21st birthday.

I started working for a local optician and it was awful! I hated every minute and spent hours applying for jobs in different industries hoping to catch a break. Turned out the break I needed was a slightly tipsy conversation in a London pub with a friend of a friend who was looking for an HR Assistant. I told her about my experience leading people, managing performance, and administering timesheets and the next day, BOOM! I had an interview and was hired on the spot.

After three years as an HR Assistant with a FTSE 250 investment trust, I threw caution to the wind and chased a boy to Melbourne where I was confident I could land another HR job. I was wrong. The relationship dissolved and my overseas HR experience just didn’t translate. After several months, I was forced to reconsider my strategy and think about the best possible next step. I jumped into an agency recruitment role with an eclectic boss and an office from the 80s (think paper, lots of paper) and used this as a stepping stone to secure a permanent HR position 18 months later.

Fast forward a decade and I have led and contributed to HR and Talent teams in financial services, technology, and the Victorian Government with a focus on employee engagement, recruitment and the candidate experience, achieving the #1 rating in Asia Pacific for Candidate Experience in 2019.

And so here I am.

A mum of two lovely children with a small business sharing all the valuable lessons I have learnt throughout my career.

My own journey helped me to understand the importance of building an internal and external network, knowing my strengths and what makes me happy at work, staying open-minded about my career path, being receptive to new opportunities and never looking too far ahead.

And I want this for you too.

Nothing makes me happier than working 1:1 with my clients, seeing them build their confidence and achieve their career goals.

So, are you ready to embrace change, discover opportunity, and design your best work life?
